Newcomen Southern Appoint New Chairman

Dr Mark Walker is the new Chairman of Newcomen Southern. He is a freelance Instrumentation, Control and Automation (ICA) Engineer/Consultant working predominantly in the process engineering, pharmaceutical and manufacturing environments, with over 30 years operational and project management experience.

With degrees in Electronic and Computer Engineering, plus Manufacturing: Management and Technology, his PhD is in the History of Technology, with a thesis title: The Programmable Logic Controller: its prehistory, emergence and application. His career spans many industries and organisations including the RAF, Siemens, Thames Water and Thermo-Fisher Scientific (Oxoid).

Mark’s experience and keen interest in the history of engineering and technology, with a good mix of practical engineering and academic experience, make him ideally suited to be Chairman of the Society’s Southern Region.
