James Ranahan

I am a Registered Archivist, experienced in caring for and managing all record types and formats. My specialism is the care of photographic collections. I previously worked with the Archives of Soho at the Library of Birmingham and I am now Collections Archivist at the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, which has some unexpected industrial records. I have been a member of the Newcomen Society for 15 years and I am Honorary Secretary of the Midlands Region. I am currently filling a casual vacancy on Council and I seek election so that I may contribute directly to the Society during a critical period in its development. I believe my experience of outreach and engagement work within the heritage sector will assist the Society as it widens its appeal and broadens its range of services. My previous experience as Honorary Treasurer of the Archives & Records Association (the professional body for archivists) will enable me to contribute strongly to governance and strategic direction of the Newcomen Society.
