The Society's Patron, HRH The Duke of Gloucester

The President and Council of the Newcomen Society are delighted to announce that HRH The Duke of Gloucester has agreed to be Patron of the Society, initially for a term of five years.

The Duke is well-known for his interest in the history of transport and is already patron of the Severn Valley Railway and the Tramway Museum. He opened the Brunel Bicentenary Conference in 2006.

The Duke of Gloucester trained as an architect and continues to be interested in conservation and the built environment. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Structural Engineers and was a Commissioner of English Heritage.
