Dr Sam Alberti, Keeper of Science & Technology at National Museums Scotland chairs this discussion which focuses on the current challenges facing the Scottish energy industry as oil and gas resources slowly decline and the roll out of renewable energy technologies increases. Collectively our panellists possess over fifty years of experience of Scotland’s energy industries. Artist Sue Jane Taylor spent over thirty years recording the lives of workers in the North Sea oil and gas industry, gaining a unique insight into the cultural, political and economic impacts of oil. She is also documenting the shift in renewable energy technologies in Scotland from experimentation to implementation. Ronnie Macdonald was the first General Secretary of the Offshore Industry Liaison Committee, the Aberdeen based trade union set up in response to the Piper Alpha disaster in 1988. He worked in the industry for many years and is now part of the Oil Lives oral history project at the University of Aberdeen. Senior Project Manager at Edinburgh based Artemis Intelligent Power, Jamie Taylor is an expert in renewable energy and closely involved in the development of Digital Displacement® wind-turbine transmissions. The most powerful hydrostatic transmissions ever built, these are currently on test in Scotland and Japan.
