The Newcomen Society runs occasional special lectures and conferences, often jointly with other societies or institutions.

  • 12th June to 15th June 2008 - 6th International Early Railways Conference, London
    This conference is arranged in association with University College, London and sponsored by the Institute of Railway Studies & Transport History, The Locomotion Trust, the Railway & Canal Historical Society and the Newcomen Society. The conference will be held at University College, London, which is believed to be the site of Trevithick's 1808 demonstration of his locomotive, Catch Me Who Can.   • 29th June to 4th July 2008 - 4th World Archaeological Congress in Dublin
    In particular the theme 'Critical technologies - the making of the modern world' will be of interest to Newcomen Society members. Within this theme are four sessions:
    • The Archaeologies of internment: method and theory for an emerging field
    • Atomic Archaeology
    • Method and Machine: theorising an archaeological approach to technical
    • Nostalgia for Infinity: exploring the archaeology of the final frontier
